Achieving Consistent Stimulation in Every Stage

Every horizontal well completion seeks to distribute proppant evenly throughout the length of each completion stage. Studies have shown that this result is often not achieved and significant portions of the horizontal lateral are under-stimulated and perhaps remain un-stimulated. There are several possible techniques available to improve completion efficiency, that is, the total percentage of perforations that contribute to production. One of these is to perforate rock with similar mechanical properties within each completion stage. OmniLog® and PerfAct® provide the means to accomplish this using cost-effective techniques whose results have been validated in well performance studies and carry little to no additional operational risk.


  • No new data is required. Leverages data that is already available.
  • Minimal to no risk approach to optimizing completions. No adjustments to pump schedule (rate, pressures, volumes) are necessary to achieve improved well performance.
  • Proven in all basins: Reservoirs with low and high levels of mechanical property heterogeneity have been shown to benefit from PerfAct-recommended perforation cluster placement.
  • Can be applied to all wells. Historical wells can be analyzed to get diagnostics and insight. Only technology that can be applied to improve performance of DUC wells.
  • Rapid Turnaround:  Integrated software platform allows for rapid turnaround. Wells can be analyzed within a few days once data has been delivered to Drill2Frac.

PerfAct Analysis

PerfAct analyzes the OmniLog rock hardness profile and other relevant information such as gamma ray, gas detections, mass spectroscopy, and other measurements that might be available, and using sophisticated computer algorithms, places perforations based on clients hierarchy of relative importance. Analysis is performed in minutes and is repeatable, while the optimal hierarchy of importance can be derived using the FracCheck service. Final recommendations are validated by basin experts before delivery, and the service includes unlimited revisions–even including during the stimulation treatment–should the treatment perform outside of expectations.

Standard Deliverables

The following are the standard deliverables when an existing completion is modified:

  1. Improvements in Perforation Cluster Efficiency
    Every deliverable provides a statistical metric that shows what the net improvement is in perforation cluster efficiency.
  2. Comparison of Fluid Distribution Model
    Fluid distribution model provides a quick and visual indicator of efficiency in fluid distribution between different designs. Final design is done by the client to achieve the optimal fluid distribution.
  3. Recommendations
    D2F subject matter experts will make a few recommendations on how to achieve consistent and optimal stimulation. Designs can be optimized to reduce completion times, achieve ideal cluster efficiency, or carry out specific reservoir management objectives.
